Kisan Mela cum Awareness Programme to mark the celebration of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bishnupur was organised in the KVK Campus in Bishnupur district on Tuesday.

A statement stated that the Kisan Mela cum Awareness Programme was organised by KVK, Bishnupur to mark the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ which is organised from April to October.

It mentioned that the programme was attended by Utlou Gram Panchayat pradhan N Sharat Singh as the chief guest, former union minister and KVK Bishnupur for Jal Shakti Abhiyan chairman Th Chaoba Singh as the president along with BJP Kishan Morcha, Bishnupur district president K James Singh as the guest of honour.

In his welcome address, KVK Bishnupur head and senior scientist Kh Brajamani Meetei highlighted the role of technical backstopping, it informed. KVK Scientist (Agronomy) Sakhen Sorokhaibam conducted a scientific interaction on ‘Water Use Efficiency of Rabi Crops’ in which she outlined the importance of effective water management through crop planning and water conservation in Rain-fed agriculture, it stated.

As part of the programme, the farmers were apprised about the micro-irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, water conservation, appropriate crops, and efficient water management for livestock and aquaculture, it stated. Method demonstrations on ‘Millet cultivation and Demonstration of Small Farm Implements’ were also organised during the event, it added.
