KIML alleges repeated attacks by Meiteis

The Kuki Inpi Moltam Lhang (KIML) has alleged the Meiteis of severally attacking Kuki villages in New Keithelmanbi area October 8 being the latest.

It is the fifth incident of attacking the Kuki-Zo villages in New Keithelmanbi and its adjoining areas ever since the eruption of violence on May 3, it stated.

KIML even accused Meiteis of donning camouflage and police uniforms while attacking Sinam Khaithong Kuki village on October 8 early morning at around 4.20 am.

New Keithelmanbi and its adjoining areas were attacked on May 3 evening and May 4 morning, while it was attacked again after a gap of five months consecutively October 4 evening, October 5 morning, and October 8 morning, it said.

On October 4, armed Meiteis attacked New Keithelmanbi village was confronted by central security forces deployed in the area. However, a residence belonging to a Kuki AR personnel was set ablaze by the armed Meiteis the next morning on October 5, KIML said.

At least four houses belonging to the Kukis at L Jangnomphai village were also burnt down in the evening of October 5 with the village Church as well partially torched, added the statement.

It stated that despite heavy deployment of central security forces in the area, Meiteis attacking Kukis in the guise of the state forces is a clear indication of N Biren Singh’s double standards in the persecution against the Kukis.

It even accused the local media of publishing one-sided news and ill-motivated reports which will add fuel to the fire of the present ethnic conflict.
