General secretary KIM Shokholun Mate said that the scheduled polling days for the 12th Manipur Legislative assembly election 2022 are on February 27 and March 3. The first phase polling date February 27 falls on Sunday.

He said the tribal population in the state are predominantly Christian and Sunday is a day of rest and worship for them.

He also maintained that scheduling the date of the poll on February 27 which falls on Sunday has raised serious objections and complaints while it is bound to hurt the religious sentiment of this section of the society and under such circumstances, many voters will be prevented from exercising their adult franchise.

He further said that as it is the policy of the election commission to ensure the participation of all eligible citizens to exercise their adult franchise, it would be in everyone’s best interest to reschedule the polling day for another day other than Sunday.
