Addressing the function as chief guest, retired director of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal (JNMDA), Longjam Joychandra Singh said that Khongjom War remains one of the most historic events for the people of Manipuri. The battle proved that the people of the state have a strong sense of nationalism and patriotism from early period, he added.

“Those warriors of the state in that battle knew about their incompetency but for the sake of motherland, they didn’t surrender to their much abled rival, British Empire. That was the real spirit of heroism and patriotism,” he recounted while appealing to present generation to follow the legacy of nationalism and patriotism that the forefathers of the state possessed.

Joychandra said that Manipur is known for its rich cultural heritage. But many art forms are in condition of gradual disappearance due to the death of many dedicated artists who took great responsibility in preserving it. The present generation should give due attention in this regard as it culture and tradition is identity of one’s community, he suggested.
