The department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is organising the ‘Khelo India Dus Ka Dum’ from March 10 to 31 as a celebration of International Women's Day 2023.
A release issued by Sports Authority of India (SAI), North East Regional Centre (NERC), Imphal stated that the event will be the first time that such a sports initiative was organised to celebrate the international event and the union ministry has sanctioned a total budget of Rs 50 lakh to conduct the tournament.
It informed that the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur will be attending the opening ceremony of the event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on March 10. The tournament features 10 sports items that will be held across 10 cities in the country with around 15000 women athletes participating.
It stated that the main objective of the tournament is to provide a platform for the women athletes who were unable to participate in national or state-level competitions and also to ensure that competitive sports reach untapped geographical areas.
The sports disciplines that will be a part of the event include Kho Kho, Wushu, Wrestling, Fencing, Archery, Swimming, Basketball, Judo, Athletics and Yogasana, it added.
