Writers play a vital role in promoting the growth of Manipur’s indigenous languages and as such, should strive to elevate the state’s literature on the global platform, said Patsoi assembly MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor on Thursday in Imphal.

The MLA was speaking as the chief guest at the 21st foundation day observation of Kangleipak loinasillon Apunba Marup (KALAM) held at Manipur Press Club.

Kunjakeswor maintained that it is the collective duty of all citizens to safeguard and prevent encroachment of other languages into the native tongue. “The native script will become the main script used for everyday communication so we all must promote it on individual levels,” said Kunjakeswor.

He further stressed on the importance of time management and exhorted everyone to contribute something of value to the society during their limited stay.

President of KALAM Imphal Thiyam Silleima Leima, Former principal of Bishnupur Higher Secondary School Wahengbam Hemabati among others attended the observance.

During the observation, the Haobam Sanajaoba (haoba) Loinasillon Ningshing Mana, 2022 was awarded to Sarat Salam for his book “Adungei Mashanna Sing" while Mutum Ramani was bestowed the Leishangthem Somananda Loinasillon Ningshing Mana lising, 2022 for poetry book “Karamna Themgani”. The attendees also paid floral tributes to images of past KALAM members.
