In the efforts under, “War On Drugs 2.0,” which has intensified following the directives of Chief Minister N Biren, the Kakching district police on Sunday afternoon seized 723 gram of heroin powder and apprehended the alleged owner of the drugs.
The confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 14.46 in the local market and Rs 144.6 lakh in the international market.
As per police report, the driver who was transporting the drugs, managed to escape from the police while the alleged owner, who was the associate of the driver, identified as Sneha Thounaojam, wife of Sarungbam Yoihenba Meitei of Patsoi Part-II, Imphal West, presently residing at Pallel-Chandel Lamkhai was apprehended from Pallel area in Kakching district.
It stated that during a random frisking and checking at Pallel CDO check-post, the police team tried to stop a Maruti Gypsy coming from Pallel side for checking but the vehicle sped past the check-post.
However the police team chased the vehicle and was found parking near Axis Bank, Kakching but the driver had escaped from the spot, leaving behind the vehicle and the drugs was found concealed inside 63 soap cases which were kept behind the panel of the right door and behind both the panels of the body of the vehicle, mentioned police report.
The arrested person along with the seized articles was handed over to Kakching police station for further necessary legal action and efforts to arrest the driver of the vehicle, who is still at large, are underway, police said.
