The Kakching District Bar Association on Sunday strongly condemned the Manipur government’s alleged failure to take action against the attacks carried out by Kuki militants, who have been targeting the Meitei villages with various weapons since September 1.
In a press meet held at the Legal Aid Clinic of Library and Information Centre building in Kakching, treasurer Sansweta Kshetrimayum criticised the state government, accusing it of being defunct and powerless in addressing the crisis. He described the government as a dummy administration, incapable of taking necessary measures to resolve the situation.
Sansweta Kshetrimayum maintained that the attacks, involving advanced weaponry such as high-tech drones and ballistic missiles, cannot be dismissed as mere internal conflict, but rather constitute a war against the country.
He further accused the 50 non-Kuki MLAs of being ineffective and unable to exercise the powers granted to them under the Constitution of India.
He also blamed the security advisor to the Home department and Unified Command Chairman, Kuldeep Singh, along with the DGP and Chief Secretary of Manipur, for failing to fulfill their responsibilities.
Sansweta urged the ruling and opposition party MLAs to come together and take a collective decision to end the ongoing crisis, warning that failure to do so could lead to youth-driven agitations similar to those seen in Bangladesh.
The press meet was attended by the association’s president N Madhu and general secretary B Prem Sharma, among others. The attendees also observed two minutes of silence in honour of departed souls during the ongoing crisis.
