The Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee (JSCC), comprising representatives from MSF, KSA, SUK, and another has vehemently condemned the appointment of T Geetchandra Sharma as secretary of BOSEM.

It cautioned that they will not remain a silent spectator if the government fails to remove Geetchandra from the post of BOSEM secretary latest by July 29.

Addressing the media at the MSF office in Imphal on Tuesday, JSCC spokesperson Nongthoujam Dhanachandra expressed deep concern over what he described as a grave error in appointing Geetchandra, who is the additional director of Education (S).

“It is very unfortunate for the state’s education sector to share important responsibilities with T Geetchandra Sharma, who is the most corrupt person,” he stated.

Highlighting Geetchandra’s alleged involvement in fraud cases dating back to 2007, he said, “Such a tainted individual tarnishes BOSEM’s reputation.”

He maintained, traditionally entrusted with overseeing examinations and academic activities, both BOSEM and the COHSEM have historically been led by experienced educators from within the profession.

Despite appeals to appoint qualified educationalists, bureaucratic appointments like Geetchandra are unfortunate, he said.

The JSCC had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, education minister, and education commissioner on May 7, 2024, advocating for a competent individual with a background in teaching.

Despite repeated appeals against assigning bureaucratic officers to these roles, the appointment of T Geetchandra, Additional Director of Education (S), as the Secretary of BOSEM is particularly unfortunate, said Dhanachandra.

The JSCC warned of potential consequences if the matter is not rectified promptly, holding the Education Minister accountable for any ensuing fallout.
