In an effort to bolster relief efforts for IDPs, MLA Kh Joykishan on Friday highlighted the imperative for a unified action among elected representatives to meet the unique challenges faced by those in need.
Addressing the media during a visit to the relief camp opened by Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) at Khuyathong in Imphal, MLA Joykishan commended the government’s ongoing efforts while stressing the need for additional support from local leaders.
He suggested all his assembly colleagues to facilitate the IDPs, who are camping at relief camps under their respective constituencies, on top of the government’s initiatives to give them better comfort.
The relief camp, which currently shelters 527 individuals including 331 adults and 196 children, has emerged as a model for humanitarian assistance.
Each inmate benefits from separate bed accommodations, access to skill development programmes, nutritional diets, a hygienic environment, and essential medical facilities.

Notably, children from Class V to X are provided a conducive educational environment akin to a boarding school, complete with dedicated study amenities and coaching sessions conducted by expert teachers across various subjects. Furthermore, sports activities under the guidance of trained coaches are also part of the camp’s routine.
Expressing his commitment to the welfare of those sheltering in his constituency, Joykishan emphasised the importance of ensuring their comfort and well-being.
“As their elected representative, it is my responsibility to ensure that they feel at least some level of comfort during this challenging time,” stated Joykishan.
Touching upon the broader context of the current crisis, the MLA highlighted the necessity for emotional unity among Manipur’s diverse ethnic communities in combating the menace of narco-terrorism.
Inmates at the relief camp, while interacting with the media, conveyed their satisfaction with the facilities provided, noting a stark contrast to previous experiences in other camps. Despite finding comfort in their current surroundings, the residents expressed a deep yearning for peace and the eventual return to their homes.
