The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Manipur has reiterated its demand for implementing National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday at JCILPS office in Imphal, its convenor Phulindro Konsam appreciated the state government and its machineries for their crackdown on non-locals without proper valid documents.

He, however, drew the attention of the government to ensure that such drives are sustained to detect illegal immigrants as well as migrants.

Welcoming the state government's plan to launch a house-to-house survey with the institution of the state population commission, Phulindro urged the government to set up the population commission at the earliest.

He further demanded the government to translate its earlier submitted memorandum into action over implementation of NRC in the state.

Konsam maintained that such steps need to be taken to safeguard the indigenous communities of the state.
