Manipur's Tengnoupal district police organised a rally on Saturday spreading awareness of safety measures against COVID-19 in Moreh town under the leadership of its SP Th Vikramjit.
Moreh police and Tengnoupal Police personnel took part in the Jan Andolan rally. The rally started from Moreh Police station and passed through Moreh town up to the Forest Gate and culminated at the starting point.
Placards written with COVID-19 safety measures such as wash hand frequently with soap, wear face mask, cover cough and sneeze, keep physical distancing, ‘Mee punbiganu’ among others were used.
A meeting was also held after the rally. SP Vikramjit spoke on how to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
While saying that the COVID-19 pandemic is like a war, he urged everyone to be careful and follow the SOP and guidelines of the government.
After every duty, one should properly wash their hands. Use of face mask and maintaining social distancing is compulsory, he added.
Additional SP (Ops) M Amit, Moreh SDPO L Meghabarne and Moreh OC Kh Dilipkumar also took part in the programme.
Later, the Tengnoupal SP also convened a meeting with different CVOs leaders of the town on COVID-19 awareness and after the meeting, SP along with other officers check the public who are not using mask in public places. A fine of Rs 200 were collected from people coming without face mask and masks were also distributed to the public.
As part of precautionary measures to curb the pandemic, Tengnoupal District police is presently banning the import of foreign goods from Myanmar.
All vehicles loaded with foreign made goods were stopped at Kondong Lairembi Check Post at Chikim village Moreh and make them return back to Moreh town. A meeting was also arranged at Moreh police station to this effect.
Speaking during the meeting, the Tengnoupal SP said that the Indo-Myanmar border has been closed since March 20 but many foreign made goods, which may come from porous border are still available in the town.
If this continues, COVID-19 may also be transmitted from other country to our state. In order to curb the pandemic, he stated adding that the police are performing their duties for the welfare of the society. He also sought cooperation towards the police department from the public.
Later, a meeting was also held at Moreh police station with the Transporters and Drivers Association.
