During a sit-in protest at Thoubal Keithel on Wednesday, JAC spokesperson Sanjembam Sorojini stated that Angou was abducted by 3 to 4 unknown miscreants in a black Bolero vehicle near Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School in Uripok on September 30. Despite filing a written complaint to Imphal West Police Station, no action has been taken by the authorities even after 24 days.

Sorojini warned that if no action is taken by Thursday, the JAC will proceed with the strike in Thoubal District. However, the strike will not impact religious ceremonies, media, medical services, or other essential services.

She also called on all meira paibis, organisations, and clubs to support the strike.

Meanwhile, Akoijam Angou’s wife, Kiran Leima, questioned the motives behind her husband’s abduction and urged for his unconditional release, emphasising the opportunity for him to rectify his mistakes.

The protestors chanted various slogans demanding the release of Akoijam Angou.
