JAC against the brutal killing of Laishram Amarjit on Saturday demanded the state government to mete out befitting actions against the culprits allegedly involved in the murder of Laishram Amarjit.
Laishram Amarjit, son of Laishram Mushuk Meetei from Lamlai Makha Leikai, was a VDF personnel posted at Yaingangpokpi Police station prior to his murder.
The JAC also warned that intense agitations will follow if authorities concerned fail to file the final investigation report by April 22.
Speaking to media at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul on Saturday, convenor of the JAC, Elangbam Dayananda, recalled that Amarjit was found unconscious and badly injured on the midnight of March 9 at Sabungkhok Khunou Waiting shed.
He claimed that the incident took place when Amarjit was returning home from a night out with friends. We believe that unknown miscreants might have carried out the assault and dumped his body near the shed, he added.
“Amarjit went out with his friends for ‘Thabal Chongba’ on the night of March 9; after separating from his friends, he was headed for home when the unfortunate incident took place,” he said.
Dayananda highlighted that Amarjit was rushed to Raj Medicity when passers-by discovered his body near the waiting shed. He informed that Amarjit was kept under Intensive Care for nine days and later on moved to the general ward after which he passed away on March 31.
“His was body was taken to JNIMS Hospital for post-mortem on the same day but the report of the post-mortem is yet to be released,” he said.
Dayananda further highlighted that a Suo Motu case (FIR No. 03(03)2023YPI-PS) had been registered at Yaingangpokpi police Station on March 9. Even after 38 days, the investigation is at a stalemate as the police have yet to ascertain a single lead regarding the investigation, he added.
“The police do not have the post-mortem report nor have they tried to procure it; we do not know if they are sincerely dispensing their resources to solve the case,” he added.
The JAC convenor stated that authorities’ utter disregard has hindered the progress of the investigation and as such he reiterated that a series of intense agitation along with the masses will be taken up if authorities concerned failed to resolve the matter by April 22.
He further demanded authorities concerned to make suitable job arrangements for the spouse of (Late) Amarjit.
