A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been established in response to the alleged abduction of Akoijam Angou, 57, son of (L) Mani from Thoubal Awang Leikai, ward number 4, Sanjembam Leirak, on September 30 by unidentified miscreants.
As per sources, Angou was abducted by unknown miscreants in a black Bolero while on his way to pick up his child from a tuition center at Uripok, near Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School.
The JAC has issued a warning of various forms of protest starting October 17 if the authorities do not locate Akoijam Angou by October 16.
During a press meet held on Saturday, JAC co-convenor Sanjembam Sorojini stated that Angou’s family has lodged a formal complaint regarding the abduction and urged relevant groups to release him unconditionally. Despite 13 days passed, there has been no response from the authorities or the concerned parties, she said.
Sorojini maintained that it is the state government’s duty to protect and safeguard the lives and property of its citizens. She further warned of stern agitations, with support from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), if the authorities fail to locate Angou within the next five days.
