ISE SFEC 2023 to be held from Feb 24-26 in Imphal

Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable development (IBSD), Professor Pulok K Mukherjee, on Friday announced that ‘Reimagine Ethnopharmacology: Globalization of Traditional Medicine’ will be the theme for this year’s ISE SFEC.

The 22nd and 10th International Congress of International Society for Ethnopharmacology and Society for Ethnophamacology, 2023 will be held at City Convention Centre, Imphal from February 24 to 26.

Director of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable development (IBSD), Professor Pulok K Mukherjee, on Friday announced that ‘Reimagine Ethnopharmacology: Globalization of Traditional Medicine’ will be the theme for this year’s Congress.

Speaking to the media to at the Conference Hall, IBSD Takyelpat, the director stated that the Congress will be jointly organised by IBSD Takyelpat and Society for Ethnopharmacology, India.

Pulok highlighted that dissemination of knowledge on areas of traditional medicine, integrated approach for promotion and development of grass pharmaceuticals among others areas will be discussed during the Congress.

“The Congress will primarily highlight the challenges of developing bioresources and promotion of traditional resources,” he said.

He highlighted that the programme will also promote the ancient knowledge of traditional healers across the country. The Congress will support the ancient knowledge by providing scientific validation, Pulok added.

“The Congress will strive to provide value to the medicine of traditional healers and also provide patent in their name,” he said.

Pointing out that 35 traditional healers from Manipur will take part in the congress, the director stated that all the vernacular speakers in the congress will be provided with translators for optimal communication. He exuded confidence that the congress would provide an opportunity for traditional medicine Manipur to integrate with the global market.

Pulok K Mukherjee also maintained that Chief Editors of major scientific journals from across the globe will take part in the congress to provide insights on publication ethics. He also highlighted a competition for up-and-coming ethno-pharmacologists will also be organised during the congress to provide an entrepreneurial platform.

The IBSD director maintained that IBSD will push forward several projects of the institute during the congress including a brief record on the various medicinal plants in the eastern and western Himalayas, documentation of Phyto Pharmaceuticals Mission in the State and documents of the various floras found in Manipur among others.

Pulok stated that several Ministers and officials of the State will take part in the inauguration and further said that around 700 from across the globe will be taking part in the congress.
