Students of Kha Manipur College Kakching resolved to boycott normal classes starting from Friday, in protest against the recent order issued by the state Commissioner, Higher and Technical Education, for appointing a new principal in charge of the college on Thursday.

Irate students also locked the college gate, barring entry to all. Placards that read, ‘We Boycott New Principal in charge’, ‘Don't invite strikes’ and others were put up at the gate.

Regarding the agitation, the students union of the college informed that on January 6 , 2022, the then Principal of Kha Manipur College, Kakching Mayanglambam Sanaton Singh submitted an application to the state director, University and Higher Education for appointment of a principal in charge of the college. He also recommended five seniormost associate professors of the college for the same, they added.

They also mentioned that Mayanglambam Sanaton retired on February 28.

On February 26, state director of University and Higher Education Rangitabali Waikhom recommended seniormost qualified associate professor N Subhaschandra Singh to the state commissioner, Hr and Tech Education, and requested him to issue administrative orders for appointment of Subhaschandra as principal in charge of Kha Manipur College, Kakching.

They also said that Subhaschandra took charge as principal in charge on March 1.

The students mentioned that from the first day onwards, Subhaschandra has been actively guiding the college in all directions, especially in the works of NAAC Cycle-2. The college is presently undergoing National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Cycle-2 process of NAAC Bangalore, as per the students.

He has constantly been contacting various persons for the mandatory works of NAAC, they said. The formal submissions of AQARs, IIQA have also been successful, they further said, adding, now the college is working in full swing for the submission of the final SSR (Self Study Report) which is to be submitted in the month of April.

Pointing out that the role of a principal is highly crucial to the accreditation of NAAC, they continued that a principal should be available in the college whenever necessary.

They lamented that a new principal in charge was appointed all of a sudden in the college at this stage on Thursday. “This is not the right time for a new principal in this critical juncture of NAAC Cycle-2. It will halt all the workings and processes of preparation of SSR,” they said.

The authorities concerned are requested to retain Subhaschandra as principal in charge of the college at the earliest, they urged.

Meanwhile, the students of the college have submitted a written application to Kakching assembly constituency MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwor on Friday regarding the issue.
