Volunteers of Unique Wildlife Protection Committee Manipur (UWLPC) on Saturday rescued an injured hog deer, and it was released at its habitat located within Keibul Lamjao National Park after giving first aid.
According to UWLPC, the committee received information on Saturday at around 5.30 am that an injured hog deer was found at the cross road of Mayang Imphal and Bishnupur.
One Amu Singh and Gandhi from Mayang Imphal Charoibung, while on their way to a fishing farm, spotted the injured herbivore getting submerged in a canal. They picked the poor animal up from the canal and later intimated to UWLPC.
As per their information, a team of UWLPC volunteers immediately rushed to the site and took up the necessary rescue operation. The members brought the injured animal to a Veterinary Hospital in Mayang Imphal first, but none of the staff were found present at that time, they stated.
They later brought the animal to Sekmaijin Veterinary Hospital and gave first aid there. Afterwards, the members along with the staff of Keibul Lamjao National Park released the animal at a safer place within Keibul Lamjao National Park.
It may be recalled that a newly born hog deer was also rescued from the same site by the UWLPC members during the previous month, but they could not save the precious life although every possible care was taken up.
The UWLPC extended their gratitude to the two kind hearted fishermen for their support in saving the wildlife.
