In solidarity to relief camp residents who have taken to the streets to sell homemade products, political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal has stepped forward to support them.
Kangleipal, along with his team, has announced that they will purchase and sell these items door-to-door.
The first batch of products, which includes detergent and dishwashing liquid made by the displaced residents of Churachandpur under the Churachandpur Meitei Ethnic Class Victim Committee, will be bought at the start of the Mera month.
Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, Kangleipal expressed deep sadness over the plight of the Meetei community, who have been displaced from various districts and are struggling to earn a living by selling their homemade goods on the streets.
He clarified that due to financial constraints, he will not be able to purchase products from all the displaced individuals at once.
However, he committed to buying products twice a month and hopes to expand the quantity of items purchased over time, as well as to include products made by displaced residents from other districts.
Reflecting on the ongoing unrest in Manipur, Kangleipal emphasised that this is not the first time the state has faced such a crisis.
He referenced the Seven Years’ Devastation, a period during which the people of Manipur reclaimed their land from invaders.
He stressed the importance of unity among all communities in Manipur, stating, “If we remain united, no force can defeat us.”
Kangleipal also extended words of encouragement to those enduring life in relief camps, urging them to stay strong and maintain hope, as truth will always prevail in the end.
