India's freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu remembered on 29th death anniversary

Former PA Kiubonlung Kamei shared memories of Rani Gaidinliu on her death anniversary on February 18.

India's freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu's 29th Death Anniversary was observed by the Rani Gaidinliu Museum Trust on Thursday at Rani House, Luangkao Part I in Tamenglong district, in the presence of Rani Gaidinliu’s former personal assistant Kiubonlung Kamei.

As a part of the programme, Katangtak Hostel presented cultural dance and welcomed the gathering, followed by Kiubonlung Kamei sharing memories of Rani Gaidinliu. The event was attended by 39th Assam Rifle, Kamai major Kadam and Namkhuangam Pamei as the chief guest and moderator respectively.

The event concluded with major Kadam handing over two footballs for the children of the villages.

Meanwhile, Rigunlong Youth Star Club in Cachar, Assam held the club’s 5th observation of the death anniversary of Haipei Rani Gaidinliu at Ringunlong village, Rani Colony part I in Cachar, Assam.

The event was attended by CMD Left-up Construction PVT Pousing as the chief guest. The programme commenced after the chief guest unveiled a portrait of Rani Gaidinliu the freedom fighter of India, followed by a minute silence and floral tribute by the gatherings. As part of the event cultural programmes were presented as well.

Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the importance of unity among the population.

Recalling that the Rani Gaidinliu Memorial Colony,  Rigunlong village has been in existence since 1993, former Rigunlong village chairman G Mathew said that the villagers were originally from Manipur.

In remembrance of the freedom fighter, the youths of the village organised the ‘Gaidinliu Death Anniversary Knockout Football Tournament’, participated by enthusiasts from neighbouring villages and Manipur as well, he added.
