Indian Army observes International day against drugs

In Manipur, the Indian Army held an awareness drive at Moirangpurel High School in Imphal East district.

The Indian Army conducted extensive awareness drives on the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' on Wednesday in Upper Assam, Imphal East and Agartala.

The event was organised with the aim to educate the public on the health hazards of drug use and the importance of a drug-free lifestyle, stated a release. 

In Upper Assam, awareness drives were conducted at Phillobari Senior Secondary School, Dilli Borpatra Medium English School, and Don Bosco High School & Drug De-addiction Center, it said. 


A total of 27 teachers, 355 students, and 25 youth under rehabilitation participated in these events.

In Manipur, the Indian Army held an awareness drive at Moirangpurel High School in Imphal East district, it mentioned. 

The event included a lecture, a poster-making competition, and an interactive session with a doctor. The event was attended by 120 students and seven teachers, it stated. 

The winners of the poster-making competition were felicitated by the Indian Army personnel. At Agartala Military Station, under the aegis of Spear Corps, a campaign was organized to mark the day with 96 civilians participating, it stated. 

The event included a medical check-up by a team of medical officers and called for widespread awareness to combat illegal activities associated with drug abuse, it added.


Meanwhile, the Indian Army organised a medical camp at Makhan Village in Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.

During the camp, a team of Army doctors and nursing staff provided medical counselling along with free medicines during the camp. More than 100 people including women, children and elders benefited from the camp.

The camp also educated villagers through a lecture about hygiene, sanitation and the prevention of lifestyle and contagious diseases.

Additionally, a presentation on drug abuse was also conducted for the youth of the village to raise awareness and highlight ill effects of drug abuse.
