Union Minister of state for External Affairs and Education, RK Ranjan Singh on Wednesday exuded confidence that the policies and programme of government will make India lead as a knowledge society of the world and encouraged educational institutions in the state to extend their best effort to make the educational system more productive or employable.

He stated this during the foundation stone laying ceremony of UNACCO School Chanung Imphal East, a full residential school.

Addressing the function as chief guest, MP Ranjan, citing the saying that education is the most powerful weapon, informed that the present government of India is taking keen interest in promoting quality education system by implementing National Education Policy 2020. There would be great change in the educational system once this policy that primarily focuses on ideas of “affordability, quality and equity” is implemented in the country, the minister said.

He continued and informed that India has an age old history of having a high standard educational system where students from various parts of the country came to pursue it. One such example is Nalanda University and Takshasila University (now in Pakistan). Viewing all such historical background, India can surely lead in knowledge of the world if policies and programmes are implemented effectively, the MP asserted.

Ranjan said that Manipur was known as an educational hub at one point of time where students from neighbouring states came for studies. However, such popularity has gone nowadays and effort should be given to restore it, he advised.

President of the function, chairman, UNACCO Schools N Irabanta Singh stated that this residential school will not only be restricted to academic activities but will also extend to physical activities providing the best sports complex.

In search of good residential schools, many parents used to send their wards outside the state. With the setting up of this residential school, such problems would be addressed to some extent, he added.

Other dignitaries who attended the function were Minister of PWD and YAS, Govindas Konthoujam; Minister of CAF and PD, PHED, L Susindro Meitei and MLA of Khundrakpam AC, Th Lokeshwar Singh as guests of honour.
