Demanding withdrawal of the proposed government project to be taken up at Macha Ibemma Loukol in Takyel Khongbal, Imphal West, irate locals took up a demonstration at Takyel Khongbal on Tuesday.
A survey team of the government had visited the paddy field for taking up a project on Tuesday afternoon and left without giving any details about the project, said finance and publicity secretary of NBCA Club, Sanjenbam Loken Meitei, while speaking to the media.
They neither informed any elected representatives from the locality nor the club or Meira Paibis on the project, he said, adding their silent act has brought apprehension that the paddy land would be no more if any project is taken up in the area.
He said it is unfortunate that the government is planning to take up a project in this loukol instead of saving and preserving this paddy land.
If the government tries to take up projects in the said loukol, which is also a source of income generation for the rituals of the local goddess, the government should be held responsible for any untoward action that could arise out of it, he cautioned.
