Imphal West: Accused in kidnap case remanded in police custody

A 15-year-old girl from Tengnoupal district was kidnapped on December 13 as reported by the family of the minor.

The Special Judge, POCSO, Imphal West on Monday remanded a 24-year-old youth to five-day police custody till December 23 in connection with a kidnapping of a minor and sexual assault case.

According to the police report, a 15-year-old girl from Tengnoupal district was kidnapped on December 13 as reported by the family of the minor.

The victim’s family reported that she was forcibly kidnapped/abducted from Moreh bazaar by one Moirangthem Manisana Singh (27), son of M Manimohan Singh of Chalou Lamlai Bazaar, Imphal East.

On getting credible information, they started searching for the victim and the minor victim girl was rescued. Later the victim stated that she had been sexually assaulted.

Police arrested the accused on December 19 from his residence and produced him before the court with a prayer of five-day police custody for further investigation.

The court, after examining the prayer, remanded the accused into police custody.

Further, another three accused have also been remanded to five-day police custody by the court in connection with the kidnapping and rape case of a 16-year-old girl.

The three accused are Soram Kenedy Singh (31), son of S Chinglen Singh of Mayang Langjing Taning Awang Leikai, Imphal West; Chonjonbam Ranjan Singh (25) son of Ch Rajen Singh Phumlou Siphai Maning Leikai, Imphal West and Chonjonbam Sanathoi Singh (24), son of Ch Bihari Singh of Phumlou Siphai Maning Leikai, Imphal West.

The three accused kidnapped the minor on December 17 when the minor went out of her house to buy a pen.

According to the victim's statement, she was forcefully raped by one Rohit and one of his friends in the back seat of a moving car. They took her to many places and abandoned her at a place in Imphal West district, threatening dire consequences if she disclosed it to anyone, on the same night of kidnapping her.

Police arrested them on December 18 and produced before the court on December 19. The court remanded them in police custody for further investigation.
