Imphal steps up to provide double farm income to farmers

A one-day training cum interaction programme on cultivation of Rabi crops for doubling of farm income was held at Heirok part (ii) on Wednesday.

Imphal is stepping up to double farm income of farmers by giving them training on cultivating Rabi crops, a Central Agricultural University, Imphal (CAU) official said.

"It is true that India will be developed only when farmers are developed. Keeping this in mind, CAU, Imphal is stepping up to double farm income of our farmers by giving them training on cultivating Rabi crops,” Director of Instruction and  Research, CAU, Imphal Soibam Basanta said.

Basanta was addressing a one-day training cum interaction programme on "Cultivation of Rabi crops for doubling of farm income" held at Heirok part (ii) on Wednesday.

The programme was jointly organised by the Directorate of Research under All India Co-Ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Cotton, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and Seva Bharati, Manipur.

Emphasizing the role of farmers to bring about self-reliance in India, Basanta said farmers shouldn't keep their fields as wasteland after harvesting, instead filling the land by cultivating Rabi crops. This way farmers could enhance their economic growth, he said. 

"CAU, Imphal is always there to provide help to farmers," the director said.

During the training programme, Deputy Director of Research, Th Robindro and Scientist Pramesh Kh from Directorate of Research, CAU, Imphal and Horticulture Expert (technical assistant) L Jamini devi attended as Resource Persons and taught the farmers how to cultivate Rabi crops successfully.   The farmers were also taught how to select only quality seeds. Moreover, timely planting of seeds is also important for a successful growing, the experts informed.

It may be mentioned that around 80 farmers participated at the said training programme. Quality seeds, sprayer pumps, beans and others were also distributed free of cost to the participating farmers.
