As a part of the Smart City plan to develop a 2-lane road from Sanjenthong to Minuthong bridge along the eastern bank of Imphal River, a joint demarcation of the available RoW was conducted along the existing semi-pucca road on the eastern bank of Imphal River from Kangla Nongpok Thong to Minuthong in Imphal on Thursday.

The demarcation was conducted as a follow up action of the order issued by deputy commissioner, Imphal East Khumanthem Daina Devi on March 16.

Meanwhile, Boyes Kom, convenor of the JAC for the ‘Conservation of Sanjenthong Meitei Leikai, Mission Lane, Namthapung, Dimdailong, M on the eastern bank of Imphal River, New Lambulane, KR Lane, Golapati and Hafiz Hatta’ told the media on the sidelines of the demarcation work that the people who have settled along the stretch welcome the Smart City, but the road expansion is going to affect many households.

He said the households had settled in the area since the last 60-70 years, and they will be displaced after demarcation. The JAC had submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, requesting to decrease the width to at least 30 feet, he said.

He further said that the road expansion can also be done on the river bank instead. He further questioned the state government if it considers roads more important than people.
