The Imphal Heart Institute (IHI) marked the World Heart Day 2024 at its premises in Sagolband, Imphal aligning with this year’s theme “Use Heart for Action.”
The observance highlighted the institute’s dedication to raising cardiac health awareness and showcased its growing contributions to advanced heart care in Northeast India.
The event featured a range of public health initiatives aimed at promoting heart health including a Public Cardiac Health Awareness Programme led by Dr RK Lenin, former HoD of Psychiatry, RIMS, and Yumkham Renuca, senior dietician.
Both of them provided valuable insights into managing heart health through lifestyle changes, mental well-being, and nutrition.
As a part of the programme, over 200 individuals received free heart health checkups from a dedicated team of doctors from Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kolkata, and the Imphal Heart Institute.
An MoU was signed between the Imphal Heart Institute and Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kolkata with the motive to provide the latest and best healthcare treatment to patients in Manipur and the region.
RIMS observes World Heart Day
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in association with the department of Cardiology, observed World Heart Day 2024 under the theme ‘Use Heart for Action’ in front of the General OPD Block, RIMS Hospital on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma emphasised the importance of regular health check-ups in preventing heart diseases, stated a release.
“We must take proactive steps to monitor our health to stay healthy. “Each year, approximately 18 million people die due to heart-related conditions such as heart attacks. It is essential for everyone to take initiative in preventing these diseases by checking their health regularly and maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle,” professor Sunil Kumar stated.
He also highlighted the importance of spreading awareness in the community to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, it mentioned.
Medical Superintendent, RIMS professor N Sanjib, professor and head, department of Cardiology, RIMS, Dr Thokchom Sachin Deba, doctors, Nursing officials, staff and students of RIMS, among others attended the event, it stated.
They also committed to spreading the message of heart health through health check-ups, preventing heart disease through balanced diets, regular physical activity, and avoiding harmful habits like smoking, it added.
