Imphal East: Abandoned house set ablaze in Imphal amid tight security

Arson occurred barely a kilometre away from the Chief Minister’s secretariat, amid tight security measures put in place for the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Miscreants on Tuesday allegedly set ablaze an abandoned house in New Lambulane, Imphal East, using a petrol bomb. They reportedly came on a two-wheeler, sources said.

The incident occurred barely a kilometre away from the Chief Minister’s secretariat, amid tight security measures put in place for the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to reports, the incident took place around 3:30 pm, and despite the presence of heightened security, the police were unable to apprehend the culprits at the time of filing of this report.

Fortunately, prompt action by the Manipur Fire Services and the state police team prevented the fire from spreading further, although certain parts of the house suffered partial damage.

However, since the house is believed to be abandoned and the police have been unable to contact the owner, the extent of the property damage remains uncertain.

The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits, police said.
