Two members of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and treasurer of Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) were elected as members of IJU National Council for the union of Manipur state.
A notification issued by Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) Election state returning officer Kongbrailatpam Sarojkumar Sharma stated that in continuation of the process of election of National Council (NC) members and delegates of IJU in respect to Manipur state, scrutiny of the nomination papers submitted by the bonafide members of the AMWJU was held on February 21 at the Manipur Press Club at Majorkhul, Imphal.
According to the present strength of the qualified members of AMWJU, the posts of two members and one delegate of IJU NC are entitled to the union of Manipur state, it added.
Three AMWJU members namely AMWJU general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba of ISTV Network and treasurer of IJU Asem Bhakta of Hyderabad Headlines had submitted their nominations for the two posts of NC members, while roving editor of Sanaleibak daily and former president of AMWJU Ningombam Brojendro Singh had applied for the role of NC delegate’s post, it informed.
Since the scrutiny had determined that the nomination papers of the nominees were found to be without any errors and as no other candidates have submitted nominations to vie for the posts, the current candidates stood unopposed for their respective posts, it mentioned.
“As none of the candidates had withdrawn the nomination till the last day of the withdrawal period, all three of them have been elected unopposed to the IJU National Council,” it read. Hence, Khwairakpam Naoba Singh and Asem Bhata have been elected as NC members of IJU while Ningomba Brojendro Singh has been elected as NC delegate of IJU, it added.
