IBSD steps forward for development of Bio-Tech Park in Manipur

IBSD director PK Mukherjee said that developing of bio-economy with bio-technology intervention for the growth of NE region, especially Manipur, is one of the main objectives.

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal has moved forward to take an immense role in the development of a Bio-Tech Park in the state, Pulok K Mukherjee, Director , IBSD said on Friday.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of the 21st foundation day celebration of the IBSD, Imphal at its campus in Takyelpat, Imphal West, Mukherjee maintained that developing of the bio-economy with the bio-technology intervention for the growth of the region especially Manipur is the specific objective.

The mission to transform the bio-resource to bioeconomy was initiated by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu during his visit to the institute on October 5 last, he said.

All the research verticals of IBSD have been synergised to inculcate scientific environment of the state to the students and researchers, he informed, adding that the institute is collaborating with around 20 national institutes by signing MoU for cross studies.

Such initiative gives a big leap in promoting the bio-technological perspective for promotion of the bio-resources of the Northeast region, specifically Manipur, he added.

He stressed that one of the prominent research verticals is the phyto-pharmatical mission where the institute is working with the evaluation and validation of traditional medicine.

To make the institute acquire the quality of “Local relevance with global importance”, the institute is working with the slogan, “Translate traditional to scientifically, validate them, developed with product process technology to develop entrepreneurship.”

In connection with the celebration, the IBSD also organised a national seminar on “Bioeconomy from Bioresources with special reference to NER.” It was attended by directors from six national institutes across the country along with scientists and researchers.
