Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi on Monday lashed out at the BJP government both in the Centre and state, calling it a party with the biggest lies.
Ibobi was addressing the flag hoisting programme that was held at the residence of the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate of Wangjing-Tentha assembly constituency, former minister Moirangthem Hemanta in Tentha Khongbal.
“Making claims that Manipur has made progress with the arrival of a so-called, ‘Double-engine government’ is an act of deceiving the public; this is just BJP showing that it has a habit of lying. It turns out that this double-engine of BJP has been running backwards,” he said.

He further said the Congress party feels ashamed of blowing its own trumpet. While the people are supposed to praise a government, BJP keeps on praising itself, he further said, questioning, which notable work it had done in the last five years.
Giving an example, Ibobi said that the construction of the Civil Secretariat of Manipur was more than 80 per cent completed during the Congress rule. The same secretariat is lying as it is without any changes in the last five years, he said.
The construction for the ‘Mega Tourist Centre’ at the historical Kheba Ching at Khongjom in Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency, began when Congress was in power, he further said.
“Besides spreading false propaganda and lies to the public by coming on a weekly basis by the Central ministers as well as Modi himself during his visit, what new projects the BJP had launched?” he questioned.

Regarding Wanjing-Tentha, the assembly constituency had gone through a dark phase during the last five years. BJP MLA Paonam Brojen, a turncoat who keeps shifting parties, has fooled the people of Wanging-Tentha, he alleged.
MLA Brojen is now indulging in cheap politics.
In the last by-election, he won by lying to the public that works that could not be completed in three years would be finished in one-and-a-half year, Ibobi said.
It is highly unfortunate that MLA Brojen considers the people of the constituency as illiterate and unintelligent. Therefore, the people should seriously consider which candidate to support, he said.
Ibobi further lamented that it was a huge mistake to bring Paonam Brojen into Congress when it already had the required number of MLAs at the time when Congress was in power.

He further reminded that the Aided High School of Tentha was turned into a fully fledged government high school at the time of Congress. An adequate building for its Primary Health Centre was also constructed as well, he added.
“The usher in a new light of progress, the people are requested to support the candidates of Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance,” he said.
Former minister Moirangthem Hemanta called upon the people to become united and bring down the ‘dictatorial government’ of the BJP’ in the coming election.
Considering how the Central BJP government has stifled voices, restricted freedom, etc., the people must take a united stance for the sake of the six political parties of Manipur, he said.
