Human rights activist awarded honorary doctorate by WHRPC

Mark T Haokip was awarded honorary doctorate based on the thesis ‘Human Rights between the Rights of Self-Determination and Concept of Political Sovereignty in the Context of Kuki Political Rights in Indo-Myanmar and Indo-Bangladesh’.

The World Human Rights Protection Commissions (WHRPC) and the United Nations’ Honorary Doctorate Award Council (USA) have awarded honorary doctorate in the field of Philosophy of Human Rights to Mark T Haokip.

The doctorate degree was given based on the thesis ‘Human Rights between the Rights of Self-Determination and Concept of Political Sovereignty in the Context of Kuki Political Rights in Indo-Myanmar and Indo-Bangladesh’. The Honorary Doctorate Award Convocation was organised by WHRPC.

Haokip is a human rights activist in India, particularly in Manipur and Myanmar. Presently, he is working as president of the International Human Rights Association (IHRA), Manipur and coordinator of Myanmar, protecting human rights violations on different grounds which primarily protect tribal/scheduled tribes' rights and minority rights in Manipur. IHRA is cooperated by the United Nations and International Bar Association and incorporated under the legislation of India.

He was an editor of Hills Today, a bi-lingual fortnightly news magazine for seven years. He was also an expert on international political philosophy in the field of human rights and the right to self-determination.

The profile of Haokip was selected and nominated for awarding the honorary doctorate in the field of human rights by WHRPC after deep examination of his experience, dedication and all his activities in the field of defending human rights.
