Human resource development vital to nation's strength: Manipur governor

For the year 2021, Governor’s award was received by one Khumbongmayum Panshi, a Class X student while Governor’s award for the year 2022 was conferred to Evana Thangjam, studying in Class X.

The Governor’s Award 2021 and 2022 and Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award 2022 were presented in an event organised by the Managing Committee of Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Educational Institutions Manipur at Asha Jina Complex, NOC, Imphal on Thursday.

For the year 2021, Governor’s award was received by one Khumbongmayum Panshi, a Class X student of the institution while Governor’s award for the year 2022 was conferred to Evana Thangjam, studying in Class X at the institution.

Rajkumari Sanatombi Devi Award, 2022 was conferred to seven persons who showed excellence in various fields, including traffic police, teaching, nursing, sports, differently-abled person and best students in co-curricular activities (CBSE schools of Manipur).

The recipients are Kangabam Tamphaleima Chanu in the field of Traffic Police, Rajkumari Romila Devi in teaching, Kakchingtabam Sumati Devi in nursing, Gurumayum Shivachandra (differently-abled person who is doing commendable activities in field of art and cultural), Sanamacha Chanu Thokchom and Laitonjam Lanchenba in sports and Hanjabam Langlentombi Devi in best student (co-curricular activities).


Addressing the function as chief guest, Governor La Ganesan congratulated all the award winners and extended his wish to all the students for their future endeavors.

He said that human resource development is vital to a nation's strength, progress and prosperity and education is one of its key elements. The central purpose of education is the ability to have logical thinking and apply the knowledge they acquire in class rooms in solving social problems.

He further said that responsibility of imparting knowledge and education rests with the teachers who are considered to be moral guardians, friends, and philosophers. Students should acquire knowledge, skill and education so as to enable them to become good human beings who can take responsibility for society. Therefore, teachers should deliver their services with heart and soul and at the same time, society should also contribute their best efforts to achieve the purpose of getting proper education, he added.


Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar who attended the function as president said that education is not only a means to learn what is there in syllabus but also to understand things happening in the surrounding, state, country and outside the country. Students should also read newspapers, listen to radio, watch news to observe and analyse the changing scenario so that they can give opinion and suggestions, he mentioned.

He further said that 20 per cent of the total population is shared by youths who are in school, college and university but 100 per cent of the future of the state lies on them. They should not be restricted only on acquiring bookish knowledge but should also learn moral values and discipline as well, he mentioned.

The guest of honour of the function, retired a retired civil servant who is also the chairman of selection board of the said award RK Nimai Singh highly appreciated the institution for presenting the prestigious award by mentioning that giving recognition to the people who are doing excellent jobs or in career would surely help in motivating people.

He said that in order to have a good education system, various policies and programmes have been formed from time to time. With the implementation of National Education Policy 2020, there is high expectation that the education system would transform in a great way, he added.
