The HIl Tribal Council, Moreh on Tuesday condemned the commando personnel who were found involved in drugs related business and demanded that stringent action be taken up against them.
In a release, HTC, Moreh stated that the recent seizure of the huge consignment of illegal drugs being transported by none other than the commando personnel posted in Moreh on Monday have yet again exposed the clandestine practice of illicit business going on within the security agency.
Their involvement in such illicit activities is highly condemnable, HTC stated. “Under these circumstances, can we expect any breakthrough in the War on Drugs?” it questioned. The authority concerned must initiate thorough investigation and ensure bitter lessons to the erring commando personnel, it added.
The people of Moreh never wanted and had strongly protested against the posting of commandos in Moreh but had to give in to the previous government authority which promised to depose them back from Moreh in three months, HTC stated. Several years have passed since then and the government is yet to fulfill its promises, it added.
It is disheartening to note that the people of Moreh as a whole are being often painted as dealing in drug related business by people from outside Moreh, including the government security agencies while the truth is far from it, HTC stated.
Infact, the council is ready to cooperate with the government security agencies in its mission to wipe out drug smuggling in Moreh town, it added.
While the HTC spares no effort in its campaign against drugs, it is highly unfortunate to come across the involvement of government security personnel in drug smuggling time and again, it further stated.
There could not be more unbecoming and shameful than law-custodians becoming law-breakers, it maintained.
However, the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh's action oriented initiative against drugs is a welcome step towards clean Manipur drive, it stated.
Every right thinking person ought to support and join the mission in his own possible capacity. The HTC too, in support of the war on drugs, conducts anti-drug campaigns from time to time in Moreh by circulating appeals and organising seminars and workshops, it mentioned.
HTC appeals to all CSOs to join hands in the fight against illicit drugs and make Manipur a drug tree state, it added.
