Locals of Heirok paid tributes to the three youths who were killed at the Heirok Thabal Chongba shooting incident on March 24, 2008, at the RPN Memorial, Heirok Part I, Thoubal district, Manipur.
In the event entitled ‘Mangal Piba Numit’ (Day of Enlightenment), the RPN Memorial Trust along with the locals of Heirok and the bereaved family paid floral tributes to the departed souls of the three youths who lost their lives at the shooting, namely, Thokchom Romesh, Thokchom Promila and Laishram Nirmala.
The Special Police Officer (SPO) of Heirok, which was formed following the incident, also paid homage to the departed souls. RPN Memorial Trust president Ningthoujam Samer said that the day is a reminder for everyone to strive for a peaceful society.
Wife of Heirok assembly constituency MLA Thokchom Radheshyam, Th (O) Bijyaluxmi appealed for such an incident to never happen again in any part of the state. RPN Memorial Trust secretary L Megha recalled the events of the unfortunate incident and urged an end to the ‘gun culture’ of the state.
The event was attended by Heirok Part I former pradhan Laishram Khamba, Heirok Municipal Council ward number 4 former councillor Khundongbam Noyon.
