Heavy exchange of fire in Bishnupur district

The gun battle between Manipur police commandos and suspected Kuki militants at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai that began at 10.30 pm Thursday lasted till 4 am Friday, as per sources.

A heavy exchange of fire reportedly took place between a team of Manipur police commandos and suspected Kuki militants at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district on Thursday night. No casualties were reported, sources said.

The gun battle which began on 10.30 pm of Thursday lasted till 4 am of Friday, the sources said. During the exchange of fire, even two-inch mortars were used, it said.

Although there were no casualties reported from the side of the state forces, it is yet to be ascertained if the Kuki militants suffered any casualties.

Another heavy gun battle between the state forces and state police force took place near Kwakta Sericulture Farm around 4 pm on Friday, the sources added.
