Har Ghar Tiranga: Motorcycle rally flagged off in Ukhrul

Over 20 bikers of HAO Riders rode from Ukhrul to Shangshak to spread the message of unity and patriotism, carrying the Indian tricolour flag.

Somsai battalion Assam Rifles additional deputy inspector general, colonel Anand Manwal flagged off a motorcycle rally in Ukhrul headquarters on Wednesday. 

The motorcycle rally was organised by Somsai battalion Assam Rifles, Ukhrul under the aegis of IGAR(S) for ex-servicemen and youths aspiring to join Indian Armed Forces as part of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ celebration under ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaign.  

The drive was carried out with the aim to advocate feelings of patriotism in the hearts of locals. Over 20 bikers of HAO Riders rode from Ukhrul to Shangshak to spread the message of unity and patriotism, carrying the Indian tricolour flag.

It is worth mentioning that a fierce battle was fought between the 4/5 Maratha infantry, who formed a part of the 50 Independent para-brigade and 15 divisions of Imperial Japanese Army at Shangshak village during the second world war from March 20 to 26, 1944.

A war memorial has been erected in the village to commemorate the valour and sacrifice made by the officers and personnel of the 4/5 Maratha,152 para battalion and locals of the Shangshak during the battle of Shangshak.

As part of the day programme, the Assam Rifles troops also felicitated Veer Nair, late Rungsung who have made supreme sacrifice for the nation.

The local populace applauded the efforts made by the Assam Rifles for undertaking such initiatives as a precursor to the week-long celebrations of the Independence Day.

The HAO Riders were received by the Shangshak battalion Assam Rifles upon their arrival at Shangshak war memorial.
