The Communist Party of India Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) on Thursday slammed the state government, stating that it could have prevented the attempted mass burial of slain Kukis at Torbung Bangla in advance.

The CPI-MSC, in a release, accused the state government of making deliberate mistakes and said that the same was fueling violence in the state. The state government should have taken prior measures to prevent the attempted mass burial of 35 slain Kukis, supposedly killed in the ongoing conflict at Torbung Bangla in Bishnupur district by ITLF, before igniting another crisis, it stated.

It further lamented the alleged silence of the chief minister regarding the situation. Asserting that Haolai Khopi village has not been recognised by the state, it maintained that the land is under the jurisdiction of Torbung GP behind the Sericulture Department and rightfully belongs to the Meiteis.

It went on to say that the Kukis encroached on the land and built houses within days, thereby giving birth to the so-called Haolai Khopi village. The land is a historical site, having a close connection with the History of Manipur, the release said.

It also condemned the behaviour meted out by the security forces towards the civilians carrying out protests against the attempt to bury Kukis at Torbung. It further appreciated Manipur High Court on ordering status quo to be maintained at the proposed burial site.
