Manipur government has announced reservation seats for SC/ST, SC/ST Women and Women for Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) election, as per the result of the lottery held on September 7, 2022.
According to the notice, out of 27 total number of wards, nine seats are reserved for women. For ST including ST Women, the ward numbers 5, 19, 26 are reserved. For ST women ward number 5 is reserved. For Women, ward number 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 13, 15, 21 are reserved. But no ward is reserved for SC women.
The notification stated that the state government took a decision to hold general elections to the IMC and 26 Urban Local Bodies in November, 2022. A draw of lots for reservation of SC/ST, SC/ST (W) and Women was conducted on September 7, 2022 at GM Hall for 27 ULBs including IMC.
Meanwhile, the High Court of Manipur on December 29, 2022 passed an order giving liberty to the petitioners or any ex-corporation of IMC who are willing and interest in submitting objection can submit their suggestion or objection with regards to reservation policy for SC/ST, SC/ST Women and Women to concern authority within a period of ten days.
Following that a representation filed by two persons was received by the government and it was disposed of by issuing a speaking order.
Further, the governor of Manipur pleased to finalise and to notify the reservation of seats for SC/ST, SC/ST Women and Women of IMC as per result of the lottery, as it was as per rules without any defect and announced.
