Four inter-state drug traffickers arrested; ‘ice-drug’ worth Rs 2 crore seized along National Highway-2

A NAB team arrested four drug traffikers at Sekmai Nongthonband in front of PAL Hotel along NH-2 in Manipur.

Four inter-state drug traffickers have been arrested and one kilogram of ‘Ice-drug’ (crystal methamphetamine) worth about Rs 2 crore in international market seized along with Rs 1 lakh cash from their possession along National Highway-2 in Manipur, police sources said.

The sources said that a team of Narcotics Affairs of Borders (NAB) arrested the four at Sekmai Nongthonband in front of PAL Hotel at about 4.30 pm Thursday.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Md Azad Khan of Lilong Haoreibi; Mustaqeem of Lilong Chandrakkhong, Annie Khumlo Anal of Lilong Haoreibi and Joseph Th of Khoibee village, Senapati district, the sources said.

The sources said that the NAB team led by its officer-in-charge, inspector, K Bobby under the supervision of superintendent of police, NAB, K Meghachandra conducted random frisking and checking at Sekmai Nongthonband area and seized 1 kilogram of ice drug from the possession of Azad, Mustaqeem and Annie.

Following their revelation, the police team arrested Joseph who was to receive the said seized drug. During examination, Rs 1 lakh cash was recovered from his possession.

A case has been registered at NAB police station, the police said.

During preliminary investigation, it revealed that the arrested persons are part of inter-state drug traffickers. The suspected ice-drug was brought from Myanmar and being transported to another state via NH-2. Further investigation is underway to establish the kingpin and chain of the syndicate, the police added.
