As informed by Munal, the forest officials are prepared to protect the forest fire and will be stationed at the reserved forest for about a month until the forest fire season comes to an end.

Munal also stated that forest fires are a major threat to the plantations and the existing forest, which is the key asset of the nation. Fires damage forests, reducing the value and productivity of the assets and also create smoke and haze polluting the environment, he added.

He also asserted that wildfires can also have a significant environmental impact which reduces the soil nutrients and impacts the water quality, consequently, increasing the risk of soil erosion.

“All the impacts affect the sustainable ecological balance and we should enforce a zero tolerance towards any type of forest burning and the accused should not be spared,” Munal said.
