First webinar on Jagrukta Abhiyan for COVID-19 pandemic in Northeast India held

The webinar was part of NASI's nationwide awareness campaign ‘Jagrukta Abhiyan for COVID Appropriate Behaviour’

A webinar on Jagrukta Abhiyan for COVID-19 pandemic with special reference to bioresources was jointly organised by Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Takyelpat and National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) on December 10.

The webinar was part of NASI's nationwide awareness campaign ‘Jagrukta Abhiyan for COVID Appropriate Behaviour’ and it was organised for the first time in Northeast India, a release stated.

The initiative was supervised and chaired by former secretary of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Prof Manju Sharma. It was organised to spread awareness among the masses and highlight the preventive measures such as social distancing, self-hygiene and use of face masks, the release said.

It further said that the event was taken part by the director of IBSD, lmphal, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee as organising secretary; Dr Nanaocha Sharma and Dr S Indira as joint coordinator of IBSD while Archana Pant as NASI coordinator.

The virtual event was inaugurated by secretary of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Dr Renu Swarup, and the key speakers were former director general of Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr VM Katoch; Prof Akhilesh Tyagi from Department of Plant Molecular Biology, Delhi University; director of IBSD, Imphal, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee; Prof Sanjeev Sinha from All India Institute of Medical Sciences; Prof Ch Debeshwar Singh from JNIMS, Imphal; director of Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Dr Ajay Parida; Prof SR Joshi from North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong; and Prof Paramjit Khurana from University of Delhi, the release said.

The webinar was attended by around 100 students, scientists and research scholars among others, it added.
