First-ever Maibi Thambalngou memorial seminar on ‘Meitei Culture’ held

Maibi Thambalngou who was a popular local midwife at Wangjing and worked for the upliftment of the Meitei culture, passed away in 2021.

First-ever Maibi Thambalngou memorial one-day seminar on ‘Meitei Culture’ organised by Human Resource Multi-purpose Organisation (THRMO) Wangjing was held at the office of the organisation at Wangjing SK Leikai, Thoubal district on Sunday.

Maibi Thambalngou who was a popular local midwife at Wangjing and worked for the upliftment of the Meitei culture, passed away the previous year at the age of 82. The event commenced with a floral tribute to Maibi Thambalngou.

The inaugural event of the seminar was attended by retired selection grade librarian of YK College, Wangjing Heikrujam Jugindro as the chief guest; Meiteilon activist and THRMO president Soibam Mangjing Meitei as the president; and KHILSILAM, Khangabok president M Mohon and MILITA, Wangjing secretary Th Nodiyanchand as the guest of honours; along with several Meiteilon activists, culture enthusiasts and literary personalities.

In the morning session for which retired selection grade lecturer of Thoubal College T Babulal was the moderator, maiba hanba of Utra Sanglen, Sana Konung S Kondumba Meitei presented his paper on the topic ‘Meitei khunnai gi londa da paorou sing gi mapham’ (Place of proverbs in the dialects of Meitei society) followed by ILPUL, Imphal finance secretary L Chitreshor Meitei’s presentation of his paper on the topic ‘Enat Laining mutluraga amuk hingatlakpa’ (Revival of Meitei religion).

In the evening session, former MPSC member and Sahitya Samiti Thoubal vice president Laimayum Manao was the moderator; former principal of YK College Wangjing S Birahari presented on the topic ‘Meitei Culture: A Hybrid Culture’, followed by associate professor of Waikhom Mani Girls College Thoubal Sengoi Sanasam’s presentation on ‘Kangleipak gi laining laison da mityeng ama’ (A critical analysis on the religions of Manipur), and folklore reader Abujam Nongpok Ningthou Meitei’s presentation on ‘Meitei gi nat amasung Khorirol da Ima Leimarel Sidabi gi mapham’ (Place of Mother Leimarel Sidabi in Meitei culture and literature).
