As many as 28 staff of the Minor Irrigation (MI) Department, including three gazetted officers, who retired recently were given a warm farewell party by the All Manipur Minor Irrigation Department Employees' Association (AMMIDEA) on Tuesday at the department's campus in Lamphelpat, Imphal West.
The retired staff were felicitated with a token of love and were given the opportunity to express their experiences during their regime in the department.
Speaking on the occasion, chief engineer of MI Department, H Brajendra, said retirement is compulsory for every employee and it is the time to enjoy quality time with family and loved ones.
He pointed out that the retirement of various staff will eventually lead to a big loophole in the smooth functioning of the department which plays a vital role in tackling the issue of water scarcity in the state.
In this regard, the chief engineer drew the attention of the higher authorities for recruitment of new staff of the department, to ensure that the department runs smoothly as usual.
President of AMMIDEA, S Sanjit, said such a farewell ceremony is a emotional day for both the outgoing and the staff staying behind. However, it does not mean a permanent goodbye, he added.
He also appealed to all the retired staff to always be an advisor and guide the young staff in clearing their doubts.
Further appraising all the outgoing staff to leave all the past grudges if any, he wished them a healthy and a happy retirement life.
The programme was also attended by superintendent engineer RK Deepankar Salam among other executive staff of the MI Department.
