Family allegedly abandons patient at JNIMS

JNIMS director L Deben on Monday urged the family members and relatives to cooperate with the hospital in order to save the patient.

A chronic liver disease patient being treated at the male medicine ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal East has been allegedly left abandoned by his family members since April 6.

JNIMS director L Deben on Monday urged the family members and relatives to cooperate with the hospital in order to save the patient. Deben along with its medical superintendent visited the patient to check his health condition.

On the sidelines of the visit, he told the media that the name of the patient was recorded as Chongtham Sophiew Kumar of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai when he was admitted at JNIMS emergency ward on March 30.

He was admitted by members of All Manipur Auto rickshaw Association on March 30 at around 3 pm after his health condition worsened. He was accompanied by a woman called Sonia who identified herself as the wife of the patient.

Deben said Sonia left her husband unattended from April 6 and had not returned till date. Raising concern that the health of the patient has been getting worse, He said the nurses and doctors of JNIMS have been taking care of the patient and making arrangements for food as well as changing his bed sheets etc. since April 6.

When the doctor asked the name of the patient, he identified himself as one Moirangthem Sophiew from Nagamapal Paonam Leikai, Imphal West whereas the surname and address recorded during the time of admission were different, said Deben.

He said as a part of the treatment JNIMS has given two blood units and fur units of frozen blood plasma.

Deben said that he tried to call his wife several times but she did not receive any calls. He appealed to the family members and relatives of the patient to attend the patient who is admitted at 2nd floor of Male Medicine ward on bed number 14 before any unwanted incident happens.

Life is precious and the people should not take it lightly, and we can save a life with cooperation, he added.
