Fake spokesperson of Manipur CMO arrested

The arrested person has been identified as one Md Mansoor Alam of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.

A person, who was detained on charge of being a fake spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s secretariat in 2019, was arrested on Wednesday for claiming to be Manipur Anti-Corruption Foundation of India (ACFI) president.

The arrested person has been identified as one Md Mansoor Alam of Kairang Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.

Police said Mansoor was arrested for posing as a self-styled state ACFI president allegedly registered under ITA, NITI AAyog and MSME, government of India, certified by the National Vigilance Commission.

A case has been registered at Heingang police station for further actions.

Mansoor was arrested on June 16, 2019 by the Imphal East district police team for claiming to be the spokesperson of the chief minister’s secretariat.

A release in connection with the issue was issued June 16, 2019 from the personal secretary to the chief minister, S Rajen Singh. It stated that “Fake news is being circulated in social media such as Facebook by one Mansoor Alam, claiming himself to be the official spokesperson of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Manipur”, adding that it is for general information of the public that neither the chief minister nor the CM Office has any official spokesperson called Mansoor Alam and that he is not connected with any functioning of N Biren Singh".

The district police had released him and handed him over to the local pradhan of Kairang Khomidok gram panchayat without filing any police case against him, police said.
