A team of Heingang police station on Friday arrested two persons, including a local, who are allegedly involved in issuing fake Inner Line Permit (ILP) passes with forged signatures of Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East.
The arrested persons have been identified as Nasim Ali, 24, son of Naris Ali of Yairipok Ningthounai Yambem, Imphal East and Prabir Pal, 43, son of Jagabandu Pal of Uttar Nawabganj Balasi Cooch Behar I Dewanhat Behar, West Bengal.
Police reported that a complaint from DC, Imphal East was received by the superintendent of police, Imphal East stating that some people are issuing fake ILP passes with forged signatures of DC, Imphal East.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Heingang police station. In follow up action of the case a team of Heingang police station led by its officer-in-charge, Kh Pathou, detained Prabir Pal.
On verification, it was found that his original ILP pass expired on June 25 this year however, he was having a new valid ILP pass with validity till 2023 but with a forged signature of DC, Imphal East.
On further questioning, Prabir disclosed that he was given the fake ILP pass by Nasim. From the disclosure of Prabir, the police team picked up Nasim from his residence on the same day.
During preliminary interrogation, Nasim revealed that he collected Aadhaar cards of non-locals who wanted to get inside the state and who are staying in the state.
The Aadhaar cards were sent to Assam where an unknown person would make fake ILP passes and send it back to him through WhatsApp and then he would print it here in Manipur.
Police further reported that investigation is going on to nab other non-locals who are holding fake ILP passes. Prabir Pal and Nasim Ali were arrested and remanded to police custody after they were produced before CJM, Imphal East.
