Addressing the function as chief guest, commissioner of Art and Culture, MAHUD and Agriculture, M Joy Singh stated that time has come to rethink for reviving and rejuvenating the earth. Every locality and villages need to take the lead role in keeping the surrounding neat and clean, he said.

He urged the people of the state to change their outlook on what they can return to nature instead of just tapping its benefit.

Joint Director of ICAR, Manipur Centre, I Meghachandra Singh informed that in the last one decade the temperature of Imphal has gone up from 4.3°C in January 2000 to 7.5°C in January 2020. Apart from this, unpredictable rainfall patterns were also witnessed. Such consequences directly or indirectly affect the farmers, he added.

He stressed that the occurrence of pests and insects in the field has been increasing as an impact of rising mercury levels. To prevent consequences of climate change and global warming, tree plantation and afforestation is one of the most effective and sustainable means, he said.

As a part of the programme, saplings were planted in the campus and Langol hill farm. Staff of ICAR Manipur centre and KVK Imphal West participated in the programme.
