In a press note issued and signed by president and general secretary of EKL, H Shilan Singh and Lairikyengbam respectively, the Lup mentioned that Mark tried to mislead the people of Manipur that could lead to communal conflict among the ethnic communities of Manipur. Mark also tried to mislead the people by claiming false statements regarding the history of Manipur, they said.

It said that in connection with the issue, Mark was arrested on May 24, the Lup stated and questioned why the people of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi demonstrated protests decrying the arrest of Mark.

The state government should take stringent actions against those who are trying to create enmity among the various ethnic communities of Manipur. If the issue happened to affect communal harmony among the ethnic communities, then the supporters of Mark should bear the consequences, they said.
