Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba on Thursday assured conversion of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) to a Central University, at the inaugural function of the second Cultural Workers and Activists Forum of Manipur (CWAF) Fest, 2022.
The CWAF fest was held at Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory, Langthabal Kunja, Imphal West.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that Manipur is known for its arts and culture, games and sports and tourism and added that there is a need to invest a good budget in these three sectors by any government that rules the state.
The state has enough potential in the field of arts and culture. However, the budget spent on it is too meagre resulting in many artists facing challenges in their survival, the MP said. Nevertheless, many artists are still doing great in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the state and people of the state should appreciate their hard work and dedication, he added.
The MP said that MUC plays a pivotal role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage besides providing good opportunity and scope to many artists. As such, in the interest of preservation of arts and culture of the state, efforts will be made to convert the said university into a central university, the MP added.
“Conversion of MUC into a central university can improve its status by getting more funds which will eventually help run the varsity in a more efficient manner. Therefore, I, as an MP, would put in all efforts for conversion into a central university by requesting the central officials and ministers until it is achieved,” he assured.
CWAF president Budha Chingtham and Hiyanglam AC MLA Y Radheshyam Singh also attended the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
